We are all familiar when buying or selling a house with getting a building survey completed. However, we are discovering more and more new home owners coming across unforeseen problems with old roofs that have been listed as acceptable by the surveyor.

Building surveyors are given rigorous training when it comes to plumbing, joinery, plastering and other trades that they can view up close and for themselves. From first hand experience we know that roofing is a subject touched on very little during this training and due to health and safety reasons, these surveyors will not carry access equipment. At the very best they will have a quick look through the loft hatch for any obvious problems, which you could probably do yourself.
